What is the Difference in TUSQ Materials?

TUSQ

TUSQ nuts have a rich tone without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone, and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering the consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ nuts are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body.

Best for Acoustic Guitars.

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL nuts are designed to boost guitar tone and performance. These precision-engineered nuts are made with a specially formulated material that couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man-made ivory but is permanently lubricated to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.

Best for Electric Guitars and BASS.

Model 5000-00 Nut Slotted Flat or Curved Bottom R9.5 L42.85mm (Select Material)

The material is amazing and I love the tone I get with this nut However I was fitting it to a telecaster with 9.5 curved radius neck I had to sand a ton of material off the bottom for it to fit properly, but the way I understand it is that this is the only curved bottom nut graphtech sells. Overall I got it to fit and it works well.

    Great!

Good nutt,….but i found my hand is too large for a 9.5 radiused neck….so im gonna have to get a 12” inch radiused nut in future…

    Saved my guitar...

I replaced the factory-installed nut on my Fender neck with this new Graph Tech nut and greatly improved the string alignment and tuning stability of my Stratocaster. The string alignment with the factory nut was so bad, I just didn't like playing the guitar. With this new Graph Tech nut, I feel like I have a new guitar! Thank you Graph Tech!

    Nut for Stratocaster

I had to sand a little on the sides and adjusted the string slots but that’s to be expected as every guitar is different. I’m very pleased with the quality.

Improved play-ability, tuning stability and resonance.

The original nut that came with my Fender American Performer strat was a nightmare from the beginning.

After working on the nut slots over and over with little improvement, I had enough!

I dropped this graph tech nut right in after I sanded down the tab and made a couple passes on the sides. Now I have fantastic tuning stability and improved resonance.
