They are very well made, light, direct replacement for vintage, and quite nice to look at. Finally a high quality tuning machine which I don not mind spending extra on. I don't miss no locking on these as the tuning stability improved a lot on my tele. Will replace my favorite guitars with these for sure.

Locking ratio tuners are the first upgrade I would recommend for a new guitar. I have bought 3-4 sets at this point and I am very happy with their functionality and appearance. Installation is also VERY easy with the Invisomatch plates.

Very happy with installation of these tuning machines and using them is real easy. It took less than 20 minutes to install the tuning machines and a new set of strings. I should have done this years ago.

Choose a Single String: Start with one string on your guitar – any string will do. For example, you might pick the G string (which on standard tuners can be notoriously finicky) or the low E (which is usually very sensitive). Slightly de-tune that string by turning the peg counter-clockwise (for most tuners) to lower its pitch. Don’t drop it too far, just enough that the string is clearly flat (under pitch). This gives us room to tune up again and observe the behavior.
Tune Up Slowly: Now, tune the string back up toward the correct pitch slowly. As you turn the Ratio tuner clockwise to raise the pitch, pay attention to how the string reacts. You should notice the pitch climbs gradually and smoothly. There are no sudden jumps – the gear is giving you fine control. If you’re using a digital tuner or app, you’ll see the note creeping up steadily without overshooting. The feel is comfortable, not too touchy or too sluggish.
Approach the Target Note: As you get close to the proper pitch (whether by ear or watching a tuner display), you’ll find it easy to sneak up on the note. With conventional tuners, this is the moment you often have to be very careful – a tiny tweak might overshoot, especially on low strings. But with the Ratio tuner, you can turn the knob in small increments and the pitch responds in kind. It’s very predictable. The string doesn’t jump sharp suddenly; you’re in control of the tuning every step of the way.
Dial in the Exact Pitch: Tune the string back up to pitch until it’s right on the note. You’ll notice how effortlessly you can dial in the exact pitch without overshooting. The tuner’s gearing lets you stop exactly on the mark. No back-and-forth needed – you turn to the note and it’s there. This precision is where Ratio tuners really shine: hitting the desired pitch feels almost automatic, because the gear ratio is matched to that string’s characteristics.
Now try this on any other string: Now that you’ve gotten a feel for it on one string, try the same process on different strings — both wound and unwound. Go through the de-tune and tune-up routine on a low wound string (like the low E or A), a mid string (D or G), and a plain steel string (B or high E). You’ll quickly realize that every string on your guitar now responds with the same tuning sensitivity, precision, and consistency. There’s no overly sensitive low E, no unpredictable G string, and no sluggish high E — each string adjusts at an even, controlled rate. The tuning experience feels uniform across your entire fretboard. Tuning and tweaking gets amazingly fast, which is a must for live performances.

I had my Schecter Omen Elite 7 string for a while. But the tuners were some of the worst I’ve ever had. Hardly ever in tune, really picky and sticky when tuning. Decided to take a shot on these as an upgrade. They are excellent. The multiple ratios really helps with the large gauge strings, and they came in a 3L 4R set which was perfect. Along with the mounting plates they were a super easy install. Couldn’t recommend more. The only downside is that I had to order black mounting plates. So now I’ve got extra plates sitting around, but it’s hardly a big problem.
