    Graph Tech Slab 1/4”

    I am going to make this into a nut for a hybrid nylon string guitar (1 3/4” nut width). By doing the ‘drop on the table’ test I find this slab to have great resonant properties.

    Easy to Carve into Shape

    I needed to craft a custom nut for my multi-scale bass after I switched to a much heavier gauge string set. This BlackTUSQ blank was easy to carve and polish and is now a great, handcrafted piece of my instrument that has my thicc strings back to their proper height.

    Note: While this blank is oversized, it is *just barely* (like 1/8”) too short for the extreme diagonal of this 37”-34” multi-scale. This does not affect functionality. The nut just has a rounded corner on the headstock side of the 5th string, where my hand will never touch while playing.

    Excellent blank for those odd jobs

    The nut I was replacing was not carried as a stock product so I needed to purchase this blank and make my own. This was my first attempt at making my own. The dimensions of the blank were spot on and I was able to create a new nut in about 1/2 hour. The toughest part for me was cutting the string slots at the correct spacing and taper. Will definitely buy again.
