What is the Difference in TUSQ Materials?

TUSQ

TUSQ nuts have a rich tone without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone, and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering the consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ nuts are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body.

Best for Acoustic Guitars.

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL nuts are designed to boost guitar tone and performance. These precision-engineered nuts are made with a specially formulated material that couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man-made ivory but is permanently lubricated to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.

Best for Electric Guitars and BASS.

    A Must Have!

I’ve bought several Graph Tech nuts and saddles and you will not be disappointed. From the easy install over shaping a new bone nut. To the sound quality they are a must have for close to a drop in nut. Easy to shape if needed for the perfect nut height . They do a great job of narrowing down your type of guitar which leave you with only a couple choises. Mic up you old one and you find one close enough if not exact and you can adjust from there. Would highly recommend Graph Tech.

    I Am Certainly Impressed

From the get-go, I felt that the tuning problem rested with the 14:1 ratio tuners. I compensated for the intonation problem by reversing the direction of the first three string posts and that worked out beautifully. I had an older tailpiece, bought for my '68 Gibson ES-335 that was the same size as the stock Epi tailpiece excepting that the Gibson stoptail had fine tuners on it and real Grover Imperials holding the tuning solid. I had bought the tailpiece around 1970 but never used it much because Bigsby introduced its "Palm Pedal" around that same time and I had to have that and loved it because nothing cuts through big sound like the soulful movement of the bend and whine of a string through the music. This of course steered me toward the pedal steel guitar which I still play and love to this day. So with the fine tuners on the Epi-335, the guitar stays in tune far longer than before. I believe it to be because of the quality of the tailpiece more than the tuners.

Back to the point, your nut required minimal installation skill while producing maximum results enhancing, tone, sustain, and stable tuning. The graphite on my old nut was so ugly and obvious. It was a stroke of genius to have designed a self-lubricating nut that is tested thousands of times per night. Now when can we get to that self-lubricating auto engine? Thank you fellas, I respect and appreciate your dedication to the art. Brad

    TUSQ is a must!

Made a lot of nuts over the years for a lot of guitars. Like most guys I started with bone nuts. Bone is beautiful but being organic, bone can be inconsistent. That's why I switched over to GraphTech TUSQ XL because it works. The specs, the tone, the built-in lubrication ... they all hit the mark. I don't use anything else anymore.

    TUSQ XL nut

This was an easy diy upgrade that improved a low cost guitar that I use for travel. It was well worth the money and installation was easy.
