Black TUSQ XL by Graph Tech Slotted 4 Str bass 40 x 6 PT-1242-00

I purchased a 4-string bass guitar build kit. After assembly and during the detailed setup, I noticed that the nut that came with the kit positioned the strings WAY too high off the fret board. I purchased appropriate files to deepen the grooves to lower the strings. The nut turned out to be pretty cheap plastic and after filing a bit, I learned I would not be able to adequately lower the strings without making the grooves too deep. I commenced to remove the nut and found it to be loosely glued on and it practically fell off. So I knew I'd need to replace it. As I was upgrading another 6-string "Strat" some months prior, I purchased a new Tusq nut for that guitar. It was amazing how the overall tonality and sustain of the strings improved. So, I thought I'd try another new Tusq nut for my new bass, this one a Tusq XL Black. The sizing guidance provided on GraphTech's website allowed me to zero in on the precise correct size for the bass, and after installing it, no additional slot filing was necessary.

If looking for a sound improvement in your electric guitar, upgrading to a Tusq nut will provide a noticeable sonic improvement.

Got this for a new Epiphone Embassy that came with a poorly cut nut. My first time replacing a nut in 50 years of playing bass. Great results. Watched a couple videos, popped the old one out, slid this one in, made some small adjustments (2 layers of paper saturated with super glue for shims), and now my $500 bass plays like a $1500 bass.
