What is the Difference in TUSQ Materials?

TUSQ

TUSQ nuts have a rich tone without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone, and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering the consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ nuts are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body.

Best for Acoustic Guitars.

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL nuts are designed to boost guitar tone and performance. These precision-engineered nuts are made with a specially formulated material that couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man-made ivory but is permanently lubricated to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.

Best for Electric Guitars and BASS.

Great upgrade for my PRS SE standard

Tuning much more stable and I believe sound quality increased. I’ve used 9’s and 10’s on this but with no issues.

    Perfect size, easy fit

I have used Graphtech nuts to replace nuts on several Strat or Tele style guitars and they work really well. This is my first on a PRS SE Custom. The dimensions of this nut are just right for the slot. The bottom is flat and I had to file it down by about 1.5 mm or the action would have been way too high. I took too much off and have had to shim underneath to raise the slots to the perfect height - my bad. Go at it slowly and check several times. I never want to mess with the precut slots themselves, I prefer to trim the bottom. The slots work well for my 11-50 flatwounds, and now tuning stability is perfect. The only beef I have is that the string spacing could be wider, for me. There’s too much space left at each edge of the fretboard, especially on the high E. See pics. I have broad fingers and bought the PRS for its slightly wider fretboard, but this nut takes away some of the string spread. Guess I should buy a Graphtech blank and shape it myself but I like having the slotting work predone. Even so, I’m still happy with this nut - no binding, great action, easy to work on, good tuning stability. And speedy delivery from Canada to Australia.

Measure and fit it works fine..

As usual tusq nut is perfect . Provided you measure and fit. This particular on I did need to shim.. so maybe a white would have been a better choice but works greats as always.. as a lefty you sort of need to be a armchair luthier.. tusq really makes it easier and cheaper some basic tools and your good
