What is the Difference in TUSQ Materials?

TUSQ

TUSQ nuts have a rich tone without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone, and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering the consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ nuts are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body.

    Tusq XL

    I've recently upgraded my Telecaster guitar with new pickups, electronics, tuners, saddles and strings. It all came together when I installed the Graphtech TusqXL. I am completely amazed at how much it has improved the tone of this guitar.

    I would rank it as the #1 factor that has affected the guitars tone. Very nice product!

    Replacement Nut On Cheap Tele copy

    I’m rather shocked how much difference this made, especially on the tome of the open strings. Very easy to fit and well worth the effort.

    Graph Tech Nuts Rock!

    I have made changes to an affordable Strat style electric I bought two years ago and working on a budget to get it to where and how I've wanted it to play have been a journey.

    New pickups, bridge, locking tuners, pots and five-way switch, along with fret leveling and polishing, each improved the playability, tone, and sustain, but yet there was something missing.

    A friend visiting was checking my labor of love out and inquired as to what type of nut I had installed, and I told him whatever it had come with which I was pretty sure it was about as cheap a plastic nut there was, but it was setup nicely and I didn't the return on investment of a new nut and time to get it right would pay that great a dividend in improved sound and playability.

    After a few days of this weighing on my mind I decided I would research nuts and decide which material I would change to if I did change the nut and watched many videos and read lots of reviews and articles, before deciding on a Black Graph Tech 5010-00 TUSQ XL Nut.

    It did require a little sanding for a perfect fit, but within an hour I had it fitted, and ready to play, and play it does! The sound is wonderful, very much what I had been striving for, and it now seems to have sustain that goes on forever.
