What is the Difference in TUSQ Materials?
TUSQ
TUSQ nuts have a rich tone without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone, and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering the consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ nuts are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body.

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL
TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL nuts are designed to boost guitar tone and performance. These precision-engineered nuts are made with a specially formulated material that couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man-made ivory but is impregnated with PTFE to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.

Interesting to discover what happens when a plastic nut is replaced by a PQL-5010-00, on a Telecaster style guitar. Good that the PQL-5010-00 can be adjusted to fit the slot and achieve the correct action. Using Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings.

Put on a Harley Benton T52 100% improvement on the toune much cleaner and smoother sounding easy to sand will not use anymore bone muck better

As usual, the Black Tusq XL nut I ordered from Graphtech improved the tone of my latest strat. I first bought one years ago simply because I think white nuts are tacky looking and stand out in a bad way on most guitars. When I got it fitted on that guitar I was immediately pleased with the look of the black color against the dark fingerboard. Once I began play, I noticed a very significant improvement in tone and sustain. I have several strats and, with the exception of the one with a roller nut, they all have Black Tusq XL nuts, as will every strat I may come to own in the future. I simply won't play a strat with any other nut, any longer than it takes me to get Graphtech shipped.
