What is the Difference in TUSQ Materials?

TUSQ

TUSQ nuts have a rich tone without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone, and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering the consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ nuts are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body.

Best for Acoustic Guitars.

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL nuts are designed to boost guitar tone and performance. These precision-engineered nuts are made with a specially formulated material that couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man-made ivory but is impregnated with PTFE to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.

Best for Electric Guitars and BASS.

    Tusq nut

Stays in tune even after huge bends now. Easy to fit, using a file on the base. Have used the tusq product on three instruments, electric, hollowbody, and acoustic guitars. All for a noticeable difference.

Good product but hard to order the one you need

I tried to order the one that seemed to be the right size for my G&L Asat Classic I was able to get the right string spacing and also width by following the one that was set up for a Fender however the thickness is the wrong size. I had to use a piece of cardboard to make up the thickness when glueing in. You can't just look up Gibson or Fender or G&L or any particular guitar. I do understand that even those guitars within years or slight model variations may use different sizes but this is just ridiculous. It is tough to measure the nut unless you have special tools. I used a tape measure and was able to get the string spacing correct and width of the nut. however I was off on the thickness of the nut, still sounds good but could have sounded better with the right fit. Also with the nut being narrower you take a chance on the nut not being straight up and down and can tilt forward or backward.

    Works out

This is the right size for Harley Benton's Fender style guitars, used one each in the TE-40 (tele) and JA-60 (jazzmaster)
