What is the Difference in TUSQ Materials?

TUSQ

TUSQ nuts have a rich tone without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone, and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering the consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ nuts are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body.

Best for Acoustic Guitars.

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL nuts are designed to boost guitar tone and performance. These precision-engineered nuts are made with a specially formulated material that couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man-made ivory but is impregnated with PTFE to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.

Best for Electric Guitars and BASS.

    40mm Strat Slotted Nut 10/10

Fit snug without much sanding and shaping. My strat is a high quality guitar now with the graph tech nut and string saddles!

    The best!

This was exactly what I was looking for. A very superior quality product. All my guitars have a graphtech nut and is what I install on guitars I work on . Have compared to other and won't use any other.

Perfect for 2000 Affinity Squier Strat

I have a "Chinese" made Affinity series that - based on the serial number - was made in Taiwan. I say that just in case someone gets this based on the review and it somehow doesn't fit their Affinity Series.

The original nut quite literally busted off at the low E string so I had to replace it. Took measurements about 20 times to be sure I was ordering the right one.

Length and string spacing was absolutely perfect. Took maybe 3-5 minutes of sanding with 400 grit to get the width so it would drop in the slot. It probably would have gone faster with 200 but it still wasn't bad at all.

To get the height I marked with a pencil, masked off the fret board, taped a piece of sandpaper on top of that, and used it as a base/former to get the radius right (looked it up it in a blog post somewhere and thought it was genius) . Took another 2-3 minutes tops. I left some extra and am glad I did - I have some room to file into the nut should I decide to later but the action at the first fret is perfect for me with 10s on at the moment.

Sound is remarkably different. I know I should have expected it going from a super cheap plastic nut to this but it really is so much better. No buzz or sitar sound whatsoever - I had used lube in the old nut but it still bound at times. Never with this.
