What is the Difference in TUSQ Materials?

TUSQ nuts have a rich tone without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone, and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering the consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ nuts are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body.

Best for Acoustic Guitars.

TUSQ XL and Black TUSQ XL nuts are designed to boost guitar tone and performance. These precision-engineered nuts are made with a specially formulated material that couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man-made ivory but is permanently lubricated to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.

Best for Electric Guitars and BASS.

    Easy to fit, great result.

I’ve previously had bone nuts fitted by luthiers, but wanted to save money and try a Tusq nut. Recently purchased Yamaha CG182SF had a plastic nut fitted, with 41mm string spacing, which was narrow for a 52mm fretboard! The Tusq nut is great, and suits the guitar well. Better tone and sustain too, intonation unaffected, still great.

Could I suggest sanding instructions be included, ie: which face to sand when the nut is too thick for the nut slot - I had to trawl thru quite a few YouTube videos by luthiers to find out it’s the face butting up against the fretboard that gets sanded!

Happy customer, will return as needed.

    Measure twice

I am extremely pleased with the new graph tech nut because it helps the guitar stay in tune by equalizing, the tension between the tuner and the nut and the nut and the bridge. My error was ordering a nut that was a tad too wide. I ordered the correct one and will install it as soon as it gets here. I’m very pleased to have solved a problem that has plagued me for years.

    Fits my Yamaha C40 II

I had to thin it out a little with some sanding. It was not difficult. Sanding it to lower it was a little more challenging.
